G-Eco Club - Longspee Secondary
G-Eco Club
The Gardening and Eco club at Longspee Secondary offers students the opportunity to be involved in the ongoing development of the outside spaces as well as embedding and supporting best environmental practice around the school.
G-Eco club is chaired by a different member each session and students are fully involved in bringing forward agenda items and actioning the issues that arise.
Since its first meeting G-Eco club have:
- Introduced a weekly recycling schedule carried out by members.
- Designed and developed our outdoor allotment area.
- Planted and harvested vegetables in our outdoor allotment area.
- Worked alongside Nature friendly schools and the sensory trust to gain knowledge, skills and experience working with plants.
- Linked with Poole Men’s shed about the donation of some planters and equipment for our allotment area.
- Produced posters and information for students and staff around recycling at school.
- Run a “Pick your own” stall at our Parent/Carer day and invited the wider community to get involved in the allotment area.
- Selected and planted roses and decorative plants around the outside area.
- Many other gardening and maintenance projects around school.
Ongoing projects:
- Development and upkeep of the allotment area
- Development and upkeep of the courtyard space
- Project with the Poole Men’s Shed
- Project with the Talbot trust.
Some of our G-Eco members are also keen members of the Park Rangers and Forest school which is run in collaboration with The Parks Foundation and the Talbot Trust.
